Travel Day 1

Dear Xander and Eva,

I'm sitting on the too hard bed in the Boulder City hotel. Sun is streaming in through the sheer curtains which are surrounded by heavy goldenrod panels. The room itself is quaint. It is furnished with restored furniture from the 1930's. A dresser, desk, and two chairs. I feel sorry for the dignitaries and celebrities who slept on this bed. I feel worse for those who would not have been lucky enough to have had such a slab. There is a long quilt hanging on the far wall. Aside from that, the wall art is sparing. Two pictures depicting people constructing the Hoover Dam and an old dish with a picture of the finished Dam.

The downstairs of the hotel is done in the same style. There is a handful of Victorian furniture set in conversational clusters in the main lobby area. In the middle of it is a baby grand piano. Someone has given a great deal of time shining it's surface. Beyond the piano is a lush couch and two wingback chairs sitting quietly in front of a large fireplace. I sat there reading a book that made me cry repeatedly. I would have been cold if not for the warmth of the fireplace.

But enough about where we are staying! The travel itself was fine. Uneventful. The most exciting part of the travel was getting into the 2010 white Hybrid Camry. I am always amazed at just how quiet they are and almost yelled at your father for being irresponsible and letting it just roll out of the parking space. We also went to eat at a local brew pub across from our tiny hotel. (Did I tell you it only has 20 rooms? It's more like a bed and breakfast than a hotel!) The atmosphere was nice, the brew was decent, and the food was not.

Tomorrow I will tell you about the Hoover Dam, about the museum, the streets and shops. It looks like a little Galena in the dessert. There is a theater marquee just down the street that keeps advertising the "Dam short theater festival". I'm interested and sad that we will not be here for any of it. Don't fret! I am sure there are many other treasures to be found.

Daddy is done in the shower. I need to sign off now. I miss you both already!

Love,

Mom
